Microsoft Dynamics NAV Rapid Implementation Methodology

Get up and running fast - without disrupting your business. Microsoft Dynamics NAV Rapid Implementation Methodology (RIM) helps your consultant streamline the work process with standard tools to organize, collect and import data, and improve the quality of the project. The result is a faster, better, and more predictable implementation.

Key Benefits:
  • A smooth transition - From the start, you’ll be involved in defining the scope of an implementation with a definite course of action, clearly defined responsibilities, and phased stages that can be completed independently to avoid disruption.
  • Up and running fast - A standardized implementation methodology ensures accurate and complete data and significantly reduces the time and costs associated with manual updates.
  • Less risk - RIM is tried and tested. Your partner has access to tools, templates and best practice knowledge gathered from Microsoft solutions all over the world, including solutions for specific industries and/or work processes.
Up and running fast and smooth

For years, Microsoft Certified Partners have implemented Microsoft Dynamics NAV and built on the standard functionality to meet industry-specific and companyspecific needs.

Now, Microsoft Dynamics NAV Rapid Implementation Methodology (RIM) provides powerful tools based on this experience. These tools help your consultant automate implementation tasks and pinpoint the exact information they need to get you up and running quickly and smoothly.

RIM uses a phased approach designed to complete the implementation rapidly. Then, if needed, you can build on this solid foundation to meet your specific needs. The initial implementation is divided into stages making it very straightforward and structured, and there are a number of tools that help your consultant work with you to complete each stage fast and effectively.

The main tools included in RIM are:
  • Project Schedule: Tells you exactly what you can expect and when you can expect it.
  • Questionnaires: Make it easier to gather and use business information for configuring the application to meet your business requirements.
  • Industry Data Files: Automated importing of the most repetitive tables reduces the level of customizations making upgrading easier.
  • Master Data Templates: Make the transfer of legacy data accurate and efficient.

Read on to learn about the tools in RIM that help make your implementation smooth.

Document details exactly what will be delivered when

The Project Schedule tells you exactly what you can expect, and when, by clearly defining what your consultant is responsible for doing, what your responsible for doing, and any pre and post conditions necessary.

The schedule draws on the extensive experience and best practices developed by Microsoft Certified Business Solutions Partners to help ensure that every step in the process is clearly understood before the implementation begins.

Below is an example of a Project Template that your consultant can use as part of the Project Schedule. It serves as an agreement between you and your consultant broken down into manageable phases and tasks.

Key business information reduces implementation workload

The questionnaires help your consultant collect key information about your business. This information can be used to structure and document a detailed discussion about your implementation. It also helps reduce the workload by streamlining the repetitive tasks that any implementation requires, such as setting up local address formats, the posting of discounts, automatic cost postings, and number series.

Below is an example of part of a questionnaire that captures specific information about a business to create an in-depth profile that makes the implementation process more efficient.

Industry data automates and streamlines repetitive tasks

Industry data files are data sets that contain the most repetitive tables (those that contain the same information within a given industry), such as country codes, currency codes, and payment terms. They can be imported automatically reducing the level of customizations, which in turn makes upgrading easier and improves your overall experience. The files have the added benefit of making the solution easier to learn because your people train with real industry data – not just demo data.

Below you can see part of an industry data file. The information is stored in XML and is used to automate the setup of the customer’s system, which makes the implementation cycles more stable and predictable.

Templates make it easier to transfer your data

Master Data Templates simplify the process of transferring and setting up master legacy data, such as customer, vendor, and inventory information. These templates are comprised of mandatory Microsoft Dynamics NAV fields and your own master data organized in groups, which make the transfer of data accurate and efficient.

Below, you can see a screenshot of a master data template that includes the required Microsoft Dynamics NAV data. This means that the only data you would have to transfer from the customer’s legacy system would be basic information like Name, Address, City, Phone and E-mail from, are in template.
